WTOP: D.C. partnership offers free water in city restaurants |
|
WASHINGTON - Dozens of D.C. restaurants are offering a free way to beat the city's early onslaught of summer heat.
The D.C. Water and Sewer Authority has partnered with the TapIt network to recruit more than 60 city eateries to offer free tap water refills for those who bring in reusable bottles.
Participating restaurants include Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Tryst and Mayorga Coffee. Thirsty residents and tourists can find locations here, and iPhone users can download a free TapIt application from the App Store.
The website and app will identify locations offering unfiltered or filtered tap water.
Officials say the water partnership will help quench residents' thirst while also preventing the disposal of plastic litter.
"We're partnering with local businesses to increase public access to drinking water, protect the environment and save people money," DC Water General Manager George S. Hawkins says in a release on the program.
